Never cross the (red) line

Everyday when we get to work we have to sign the ‘in time’ on a register. If we are late a red line is put on the box where we sign. Having three red lines in month will amount to losing a day’s pay. Now for big earners it is a big amount to lose. So everybody ‘scrambles’ to reach on time, every day.

Well, I think the little thin red line is such a great deterrent to late comers or those that don’t value time. It’s like a CCTV. Imagine that we have such red line rules for our own life. We would get to the meeting on time, be more organised, do more and be more productive. We always appreciate the way the army functions. One word that comes when we think of an army is discipline. The red line is the line that not only keeps us on our toes but also makes us more disciplined.

I guess that’s why the phrase ‘don’t cross the line’ or ‘you’re crossing the line’ has come into use. The line is what keeps us safe. It’s what keeps us moving. It’s a ‘life line’ if we really value it.
